Introduction

This section describes the investor registration flow in the context of External Distribution — when investors are acquired by an external distributor and invest in QI Tech products through it — using the external distribution integration (distributor-api).

Although the registration skeleton is similar to that of a standard investor (registration data, bank accounts, suitability, signer groups, related parties and investor owner when applicable), the link with the responsible distributor is what sets this flow apart from the others.

In addition, there are two different ways to create externally distributed investors: one with identification of the investor and another PCO (on behalf of and to the order of). For PCO investors, only the investor creation POST is needed and the investor is then able to invest across the whole system.

Investor Owner

The investor registration system works with the investor-owner concept, which is simply an investor that "owns" another investor. The use cases for this are investors registered as managed portfolios and investment funds. Therefore, for investment funds and managed portfolio investors, the managers/administrator must be properly identified and up to date within the system.

In the following subsections we will go through each of the steps required to complete the registration of an investor via External Distribution and trigger the registration analysis by QI Tech.
